Search Engine Optimization – Step-by-step guide

SEO/Marketing 1 Comment »

Many sources on the Internet can help clarify web site promotion. However, there are often so many choices that it is hard to comprehend Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for a new marketer. This step-by-step guide will help new website owners begin to improve website visibility.

Step 1: Niche. Each website is about something: flowers, electronics, or a celebrity website; these focuses are each called a niche. Each niche has a unique set of keywords –words that potential visitors will type in to a search engine to find related information. Determining appropriate website keywords is a main step of Search Engine Optimization.

Step 2: Optimization. There are numerous websites with the same niche; search engines rank them and put them in order. Order is determined by relevancy to each query that users type into the search engine. Therefore, it is imperative that each website employs keywords that are currently buzzwords of the niche. Improving relevance of the website for particular keywords is called Search Engine Optimization. Search Engine Optimization helps Internet users easily find websites with the help of a search engine; this can be done by improving content: titles, body, meta tags and so on.

Step 3: Marketing. Now is the time for each website and search engine to be friendly. Put simply, it is essential that other websites link to your website. That way, search engine’ crawlers (think of a robot that browses the Internet nonstop) will know to visit the website and include it in the search engine database. The more links, the better: social networking, press releases, and article sites are all a good start for Search Engine Optimization.

Step 4: Monitoring. Once visitors start to use a website, it is important (and fun!) to monitor them. Mostly the data will give the website owner an idea of what brought visitors to the site, such as specific keywords and referrers.

Step 5: Ranking. Once the website is in the database and a search engine sends visitors, it is not only possible to monitor keywords that are bringing most of the visitors, but also to monitor positions of the website in a search engine. If, for instance, your site’s position in search engine results moved from 10th to 2nd, that may signal an right Search Engine Optimization strategy.
